Airgun Licence In Scotland Should I Just Go Fac Now.

Had sub 12ftlbs airguns for the last 35 years, often thought about getting a FAC air rifle but to be honest didn't want the hassle of applying every 5yrs/ cost etc. Now looks like i will have to apply anyway as I live in Scotland. I assume it will be the same cost etc as a current FAC so might i just as well go for a FAC now?

Heard or read some where if you own a Shot Gun certificate you can legally shoot an air rifle in Scotland ? - don`t quote me on it though, some one who will know should be along shortly.

Anyway if your in a position of "having to apply fac" try going for the duel certificate of shot gun/ fac. If you`ve been a good lad there is no problem.(As long as you have the right permissions)

They don't even know how much it's going to cost yet, but if you have the need for fac id put it in now.

Its the biggest load of shite ever imo, government just cashing in on law abiding folk and can never legislate for dick heads, plus if you have to apply for a licence everyone's going to have more than 12ft lb so it's bloody counter productive anyway.

Shouldn't be a problem getting one I have "legitimate" reason (land and pests) and no history, just the hassle/cost factor. If it was a lesser cost for sub12 air rifles or a once off register it would be one thing. But if no difference then might as well. I could sell my mint sub 12ftlbs AAS410 and upgrade to something nicer in FAC for the same money. Still keep my HW springer or could upgrade it too with a nitro spring.

Thank feck for that, thought it was just me. I was just imagining the government meeting where someone comes up with the great idea that we'd all go to our local plod station like good little citizens to hand them in while it takes them 4 months to do the fac application

Not sure how but, they will find a way. A call to register for licence, or surrender the rifle/s? Perhaps, if the Police find a fellow in possession of an unlicenced air rifle, it could have serious consequences for him/her. The threat of a prison sentence will have an effect. But only for the law abiding citizen.

There was a good old chat over things like this at my ranges recently, all echoing the same as you lads, when one of the range lads said "Here`s how stupid the law is,- watch this" !

He pulled a good looking catapult out of his bag, weighed his steel ball bearing and shot it through the chronograph. He then put the info into the chrono and got a reading of 21 FT/LBS

Then one of the senior members said imagine using a lead ball instead - or of differing calibre sizes in a catapult/ sling shot.

Made us all think that did.
